Chef Rick Bayless

Rick Bayless is a superstar chef, cookbook author, restaurant owner and more, but a major part of history is not one often mentioned. As part of my series on Chicago food history I hope to change the mindset people have of history. Rick Bayless is extremely popular today and relatively new in terms of being part of Chicago’s food culture, but I don’t believe there is a deadline to follow in which someone can be celebrated as part of history. History is history whether it happened ten years ago or fifty years ago.

Bayless, 55, started his career at his parents’ barbecue restaurant, The Hickory House. His mother, Levita Anderson, and sister, Luann Tucker, still live in the metro area. His brother, Skip, is a sportswriter, author and television personality on ESPN.

Much-lauded Chicago chef Rick Bayless told the story of his career in food to win the finale of Bravo TV’s “Top Chef Masters,” which aired Wednesday night. His $100,000 prize goes to the charity he helped found, Frontera Farmer Foundation, which … Semantic Topic Tags: rick bayless chef rick bravo tv top chef wednesday night finale charity masters

Watch NFL Games Online

Watch NFL Online

Who wants to watch only the local NFL Game? In the U.S. you can only watch all the NFL games if you get DirecTV. The package costs almost $300 so not everyone wants to shell out that money. There is an alternative if you’re sick and tired of watching only the local games…

There are a few different places you can go to get listings of all the football games on the internet that you can watch for free. The most comprehensive and best place that I have found is HowToWatchFootball.com. The site is updated daily, usually in the morning but at the very least it is updated 1 hour before kickoff. The site provides links to the NFL games and college football and offers more links then the other two sites I’ll mention below so it is my personal favorite. They only keep the listings up for the current day so on a slow football day (like a Thursday night) they only will have the 1 or 2 games that are playing listed so the site looks a little empty. But don’t let this fool you, on Saturday and Sunday the site will be packed with many many listings.

Hillary Clinton Angry Video

Hillary Clinton Angry Video.During a visit in Congo,Hillary Clinton got angry yesterday, although the Hillary Clinton angry moment wasn’t at a health care town hall. Hillary Clinton was Hillary Clinton Angry Answer Highlights Congo , as part of her current tour through Africa. The Hillary Clinton angry moment came during a question where someone wanted to know what Bill Clinton thought – not what Hilary thought. The question got Hillary Clinton angry, even though the actual question wasn’t translated correctly. But Hillary Clinton’s angry moment remains on the record.

In her town hall at the Congo, Hillary Clinton was supposedly asked what Bill Clinton thought about Chinese contracts in the United States. However, it was only discovered later that the question was mistranslated, and the actual question was about what President Obama thought, not President Clinton.

Ashley Greene Scandal Pictures

Ashley Greene Scandal Pictures, It is confirmed that the alleged scandalous pictures of Twilight New Moon’s starlet have already surfaced the internet showing a sexy Ashley Greene with no clothes on.

because Perez Hilton has posted in his PerezHilton.com website some images that look very much like Greene in the nude. Greene's lawyers also came into the scene by saying "The photos in question, which appear to be of our client, are illegal and are being unlawfully displayed."

The latest in MANY scandalous nude photos of actresses being leaked online, the Twilight star is the latest to fall victim to a nude photo scandal. That, or she is a strategic publicity seeker…as most of the so called “victims” are.

So if you haven’t seen the nude pics by now, you might not be able to see them. But regardless, Ashley is currently the focal point of the internet, and so I guess you can say, “mission accomplished”.

Kim Kardashian goes blonde

Reality star Kim Kardashian showed off her new 'do at the "Teen Choice 2009" awards.

The sexy starlet exchanged her dark brown hair for light brown and blonde highlights. In April, Kim also showed off some lighter locks but later revealed in her blog that it was actually a wig and not her real hair.

The newly-single star made the announcement on her Official Website Sunday: This time it’s for real, guys! I went blonde!!! I had been considering it ever since I wore that blonde wig, and I just decided to go for it!! What do you think? I am really loving it! I’m debuting my new look at the Teen Choice Awards tonight! Can’t wait to hit the red carpet as a blonde!

Are you feeling Kim’s new blonde look?

iron girl triathlon 2009

For two local women, this weekend's Iron Girl triathlon is more than just a grueling day of swimming, biking and running. It's also as a stabilizing force in their lives in terms of health and spirit.

The AFLAC Iron Girl Syracuse Women's Triathlon, which will take place Sunday just outside of Syracuse, will proceed the Children's Oncology Group in its fight against childhood cancer.

Tamara Miller, 51, of Greenfield Center and Sheri Monroe, 33, of Clifton Park, who work together in AFLAC's Albany offices, have been training for months.

Miller first became interested in the event in mid-February after losing 30 pounds during an intra-office contest similar to NBC's "The Biggest Loser." After coming in second in the competition by only two-tenths of a pound, she set a goal to lose 10 more pounds and saw the triathlon as a means to that end.

"I've got nothing to lose but more weight," Miller said.

Miller, who describes herself as "extremely competitive," will try to finish the entire triathlon: an 800-meter swim, a 30k bike race and a 5k run. Miller has joined the YMCA, where she swims twice a week, and she has been running and biking four times a week.

Miller suffers from sleep apnea, a condition that obstructs breathing during sleep, and credits her training with improving her sleeping and eating habits and giving her more energy. Miller also attributes training to alleviating some of the negative aspects of her life, aside from physical health.

"I gained perspective," Miller said. "It was really an attitude change for me."

Monroe, a single mother of two, originally was skeptical of her ability to complete the event, but after a presentation about the Iron Girl series and its benefits, she was convinced.

"There was no way I couldn't test myself to see if I could do it," Monroe said.

Monroe, who will participate in a three-person relay team as the leg of the 10K bike race, has an unusual training regimen.

Monroe has two children, which can make it difficult to find time to train. But Monroe has trained with her children, often biking along side her 4-year-old with her 1-year-old in tow. Monroe said that her 4-year-old is particularly excited about the event because "Mommy's going to be in a race." In addition, Monroe has made time to bike 18 miles regularly at Saratoga National Park "so once I get to Syracuse, I can get to the finish line."

Although the Iron Girl triathlon is a competition, Monroe and Miller spoke glowingly about the spectacular support system among the women they have been training with and will later compete against.

"It's not about beating anyone, It's about achieving your best," Monroe said.

Both also talked about camaraderie as a motivation to continue to push themselves through the rigorous training that goes with the event itself.

As Miller put it, "It's something I always think about when I want to stop running or get out of the pool or put the brakes on the bike."
